AEO / GEO Consultant
Helping Businesses across Ireland, the UK & USA to navigate SEO in the age of LLMs and AI
I've created this page because I know people are searching for AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) because they want to improve their visibility across AI-powered search experiences including Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms.
Honestly though, I don't believe that AEO / GEO is a new discipline or skill set. My approach is to understand how AI is changing search and adapt your existing SEO strategy accordingly, focusing on the areas most likely to influence your visibility in both traditional and generative search.
My Approach to AEO / GEO
Even I will admit that search is changing. Google increasingly provides AI-generated answers directly within its search results, while platforms such as ChatGPT are becoming another way for people to research products, services, businesses and topics.
This creates both challenges and opportunities for businesses relying on organic search.
Straightforward informational searches are increasingly likely to be answered without a traditional website click. At the same time, being mentioned, cited or recommended within an AI-generated answer creates a new type of search visibility to compete for.
You'll see plenty of new tactics presented as ways to "optimise for LLMs", but I don't believe businesses need an entirely separate strategy built around the latest GEO trick.
The fundamentals remain largely the same:
- Technology: Making sure your website and its content can be accessed, crawled and understood.
- Relevance: Creating genuinely useful content that clearly demonstrates your relevance to the topics, products and services you want to be associated with.
- Authority: Building the brand, inbound links, mentions and third-party signals that demonstrate why your business should be considered a credible source.
What has changed is the weighting and application of these fundamentals. Brand and off-site authority are increasingly important, while the growth of AI-generated answers means we also need to reconsider which searches and types of content are actually worth competing for.
My approach to AEO and GEO is therefore not to replace your SEO strategy, but to adapt it to the changing search landscape.
